As a type of
grinding wheel, the cutting disc is mainly composed of a bonding agent to consolidate ordinary abrasives into a certain shape (mostly circular, with a through hole in the center), and have a certain strength. Due to the different manufacturing processes, the characteristics of the cutting discs vary greatly. Nova Grinding has analyzed five factors that affect the characteristics of the cutting disc.
The characteristics of cutting discs are determined by factors such as abrasive, particle size, hardness, organization, shape and size.
1. Abrasive
Abrasive is the main raw material for making cutting discs, and it is responsible for the grinding work. Therefore, the abrasive must be sharp and possess high hardness, good heat resistance and certain toughness.
2. Granularity
Particle size refers to the size of abrasive particles. The particle size is divided into two types: abrasive particles and fine powder. For abrasives with a particle size greater than 40μm, they are called abrasive particles. It is classified by the screening method, and the particle size number is expressed by the number of holes per inch of the length of the screen through which the abrasive particles pass.
Three, hardness
Hardness refers to how easily the abrasive grains on the surface of the cutting blade fall off under the action of grinding force. The softer the hardness of the cutting piece, the easier it is for the abrasive particles to fall off; the harder the hardness of the cutting piece, the harder it is for the abrasive particles to fall off. The same kind of abrasive can be made into cutting chips with different hardness, which mainly depends on the performance, quantity and manufacturing process of the bonding agent.
Four, organization
Organization refers to the proportion of the volume of the three parts of abrasive particles, binder and pores that make up the cutting disc. The classification is usually based on the percentage of abrasive particles in the volume of the wheel. The smaller the organization number, the larger the proportion of abrasive particles, and the tighter the
grinding wheel; on the contrary, the larger the organization number, the smaller the proportion of abrasive particles and the looser the cut.
Five, shape and size
The cutting sheet can be made into various shapes and sizes. The outer diameter of the cutting piece should be selected as large as possible to increase the circumferential speed of the cutting piece, which is beneficial to improving the grinding productivity and surface roughness. Choosing a cutting blade with a larger width can improve productivity and reduce the effect of roughness, while avoiding burns and cracks on the surface of the workpiece.
